Cost Calculation for Packaging Boxes - Reding Packaging

Kostenkalkulation für Verpackungskartons

The price of a packaging box is determined by the total cost plus a profit margin. The cost can generally be divided into three main parts:

  1. Material Cost This includes the cost of materials such as the surface paper, gray board, inner trays, or specialty papers. To calculate the material cost for a box, determine the size of the surface paper and gray board (or other specialty materials) needed. Then, add extra material allowances, multiply by the required quantity, and finally multiply by the unit price to get the total material cost.
  2. Processing Fees This includes costs for various processes like die-cutting, V-grooving, laminating, printing, hot stamping, UV coating, etc. For smaller quantities, there is usually a machine setup fee, while for larger quantities, costs are calculated based on size, color, and other factors, with pricing set per unit.
  3. Labor Cost Labor cost refers to the expense of assembling and wrapping the boxes. This is typically calculated based on the box type and size, with the complexity of the design affecting the price.

To find the total cost, add these three elements together and divide by the total number of boxes to get the unit cost per box. The final price of the packaging box is the unit cost plus a certain profit margin. If the customer requires an invoice, the applicable tax will be added to the price.
